Great Drum of the Secret Mirror

This album presents the verses pertaining to the example of the Drum from the seventh chapter of the root text of the Vajrayana teachings of Buddhism.

This text, the "Mahayanottaratantra-sastra" in Sanskrit, the "Gyu Lama" in Tibetan and the "The Greater Vehicle Treatise on the Highest Continuum" in English, is one of the "Five Dharmas of Maitreya" given by Arya Maitreya to Arya Asanga and then rediscovered by the great Indian master Maitripa

Following the instructions of the great meditation master, Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, these verses have been set to music and sung by many wonderful singers.

Each of these eight verses, sung in both Tibetan and English, features a musical setting from a different tradition of spiritual music.

The accompanying 16 page booklet presents the root verses in Tibetan as well as the English translation.

All proceeds from this recording help to fund the work of GREAT DRUM FOUNDATION, a 501(c)3 charitable corporation whose mission is to exemplify unity in diversity by bringing individual master musicians of various spiritual traditions to join together in making music that proclaims the aspirations we all share - to live in peace and freedom. The Sacred Practice of Chöd:
Cutting Through the Ego

Recorded in Nangchen, a rural region of Kham in eastern Tibet by the travelling party accompanying Very Venerable Lama Norlha on his trip to his homeland in September 2000.

The lineage of Chöd originated with Machig Labdron, one of the greatest female meditation masters of Tibet. Traditionally practiced in charnel grounds by wandering yogis, Chöd is a profound meditation that dissolves fear and ego clinging into the expanse of luminous awareness. Like all practices in the Mahayana Buddhist tradition, Chöd is performed for the benefit of all beings throughout limitless space.

Rising Sun of Nangchen

Recorded live in Nangchen and Xining in eastern Tibet, this collection of authentic folk songs evokes the buoyant spirit of old Tibet ‚ a spirit of joyous appreciation of a mother's kindness, the beauty of the natural world, and the transforming power of virtue.
