| (Evidence
22144) the Franklin Kiermyer quartet with guests Sam
Rivers and Eric Person, honor the world traditions of spiritual music while
taking a bold step on a path toward liberation through sound. As bridges
between ensemble pieces (quartet to sextet) Kiermyer plays with very old
recordings of indigenous spiritual music. These short pieces gathered from
diverse geographies like the Greek Black Sea area (Pontic Bagpipes), the
Cameroon rain forest (the Baka people), and the Arizona desert (the Papago)
were influential in his studies at that time. This record is a testament
to the universality of spirit.
